Collage Slam on the Game Boy features 44 real college basketball teams and five game modes: practice, head-to-head, semi final, tournament time, and season match-up. Games take place as arcade-style two-on-two matches, though there are five players in each team for optional substitutions during timeouts and half-time. The players for each team are designated by their position and stats rather than named after specific college basketball players.
College Slam continues the tradition of the NBA Jam series’ over-the-top and unrealistic features like power-ups, board-shattering slam dunks, jumps that are higher than the net, and lighting striking the court. College Slam also includes distinct “fight songs” for each team.
Version Information
Torus’ College Slam is a Game Boy port of the PlayStation, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, and PC/DOS version. These were all developed by publisher Acclaim’s Iguana Entertainment studio. Iguana’s College Slam features colour and more sophisticated sound effects due to the improved capabilities of the consoles and PC. Teams and gameplay however all remain the same. The gameplay also closely resembles other NBA Jam series’ games, particularly NBA Jam: Tournament Edition.
